Academics

Here in Beta Theta, we wholeheartedly agreed with Dabo when he said that "Best is the Standard".  Academic excellence is what we collectively strive for as a chapter, and we encourage all of our members to be strong students in a number of ways.

First and foremost, as a freshman coming into college, the difference in academic rigor can be tough to adapt to. We all understand the shift in workload and want to help transition our new pledge class into collegiate academic life as smoothly as possible.  We encourage our new members to log study hours and we provide them with a Major Mentor.  This program pairs a new member with an upperclassmen of the same major who meets with them to help with scheduling, class material and general questions about their degree.  We've found great success in this program; not only is it providing a helpful outlet for our new members, but it creates bonds with upper and lowerclassmen who might not have become close previously.

While our new member's academic experience matters greatly to us, we find ways to reward all of our sisters who put in the time and effort necessary to create a culture of academic excellence within our chapter.  We give out gift cards to our President's List girls who have had a 4.0 for the semester.  Similarly, we hold a midterm meal for the girls who present all A's in their classes at the midterm.  We also hold exam relievers on the hall to encourage smart study habits and relaxation during the stress of exam time.

We also advocate for our sisters to utilize on-campus resources and make sure they know how to access them.  We have girls who work for the Academic Success Center and the Center for Career and Professional Development who help to keep us in the loop and answer all of our school and job-related questions.

Through all of these avenues, our chapter consistently has one of the highest GPA's on campus amongst Greek and non-Greek women.  We are so proud of each and every member that lives boldly in their actions and works hard, not only for themselves, but for our sisterhood collectively.
